Angel Island Shakedown Reflections

Things That went well

  • Hammock setup

  • hammock sleeping (except for slope)

  • handling rainy night

  • dealing with darkness / headlamp

Things that didn't go well

  • Lost handkerchief

Things I learned

  • Bridge hammocks are way better

  • attach tarp ridgeline independently so breaking camp can be much drier

  • hook stakes were worthless

  • sleeping barefoot was more comfortable

  • 2 tree setup - make line at eye level so sitting is comfortable

  • level hammock if possible

  • Prussick knot better than widget for tarp (assuming it will hold)

  • if rain prediction, double check stakes holding power. Also, make sure water doesn't pool on tarp

Shakedown at Angel Island

Decided to move back to my Ridgerunner Hammock and inflatable pad.  It should be a ton easier to setup on ground if needed, the larger tarp more protective against rain, and all around easier at the expense of 1.5   - 2lb in weight.

This shakedown should test that theory.  So far so good.
